University College Birmingham

The SWHB Board completed an exercise in 2019, where we agreed our priorities and direction. One of the key partnerships for us, was development of our talent and the next managers of the future, from that commitment the partnership with UCB was launched.

Each member of the board is a mentor to hospitality students and we actively teach students in our hotels on a monthly basis.  We have recently set the students a number of case studies that we are completing on The Royal Angus, which meant 60 students presenting their findings to our team.

Birmingham City Council

We were acutely aware of the poor standards of accommodation that families were receiving in the council house waiting system across Birmingham. We decided to set up a separate company away from our hospitality business, to partner the council to change the standards across the city.

The Birmingham City Council accommodation programme was launched, our dedicated team source suitable accommodation across the city, ranging from hotels to apartments for families. Each of the venues have to agree to join the programme which details health & safety standards, food standards, cleanliness and housekeeping. Integrity and doing the right thing are at the heart of our new business, we are determined to change the quality of offer across Birmingham.

Our Water Coolers are from AquAid

Here, at Switch Hospitality Management, we are aware that keeping our team hydrated will aid them to perform at their very best throughout the work day.As a result, we decided to invest in watercoolers from AquAid.

Our partnership with AquAid has also given our company the opportunity to help those less fortunate than ourselves, because with each purchase an automatic donation is made to The Africa Trust. These funds are used to build ‘Elephant Pumps’ - a modified version of an age old Chinese rope pulley system. One such pump is currently being installed in Africa on our behalf and it will be a much needed source of clean and fresh drinking water for many.

Our organisation’s name will be proudly displayed on our well and we look forward to adding a photo and a letter of thanks from the villagers to our site in the near future.

To date AquAid have built over 8,000 such Elephant Pumps across parts of Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe; and have donated in excess of £17 million to charity.
